Today I reversed preached to JW's about the scandal in Australia
by ILoveTTATT2 inso today a friend recommended that i ask the witnesses about the news in australia.
i am in mexico, in a city called mazatlan.. two weeks ago i talked with some jw's on the cart about the septuagint and the different bible versions.
so we had had a decently amicable conversation back then (i have never admitted i was a jw).. so today i saw them again, same place, same time.

She may not be lying saying she'd go to the authorities. I think most JWs would have that same reaction. . . UNTIL they spoke to the elders first, who would lean on them for prudence and discretion and trust in Jehovah to handle things. At that point the JW would either capitulate and fall into line, or her faith in the Borg would begin to crack. -

Anything that slows their growth, helps more victims, and protects more people from becoming victims is a good thing. If ONE person stops studying, it's a win. And these things often end up with dozens if not hundreds of people leaving the Borg. Mass exodus? Perhaps not. Still, baby steps... -

Regarding part four of Wednesday's proceedings, I am just beginning to listen to it and Mr. Davies interestingly chooses NOT to swear on a Bible before testifying.
EDIT - He's an attorney, not a JW. That's why. :) -

Is it just me or is Bowditch dumber than a rock?
I get that you're hard of hearing and need things repeated. But even when he understands the words he doesn't seem to comprehend the questions.
Also, I really dislike the way BCG's attorney phrases questions. She doesn't really ask anything - she just poses a lengthy proposition with the addendum, "would you agree?" The chief justice is probably the best in the room for cutting to the heart of things. -

FMF Rant on Abuse and JW Apologists: The Single Root of the Whole Issue(s)
by freemindfade infor the jw apologists, they debate certain factors to down play all the recent sex abuse information in the jehovah's witness organization.
and there is so much focus on "two witness rule" and "parents can report" the "elders aren't legal authorities" and many other smoke screen issues.
a lot of these issues and discussion are down stream from what i believe to be the root of the issue.

Justice: "Is it appropriate?" (forcing a young woman to describe sexual details to three MEN who are friends of her father)
Elder: "There might be a better way of doing it."
Justice: "What is that better way?"
Elder: "I don't know." (aka. I'm not allowed to think of stuff like that and remain an elder in good standing) -

I would expect the UK and other European nations to be next. The USA will be last to follow most likely. -

Wakey wakey Jehovah's Witnesses! Your real world is being exposed
by Half banana inthe posts here are flooding in on the subject of the watchtowers toleration of sexual abuse being publicised in the world media.
sure they print and say its wrong like everyone else does but what their policies show above all is the lack of genuine, humane care and considerate welfare for its members.
there must be so many voiceless jw victims and perhaps now they can speak out..

When that justice asked about the news, what I found dumbfounding was the fact that the elder knew he would be testifying for weeks or months ahead of time and never bothered researching anything relating to the topics he was likely to be asked about. No preparation whatsoever. -

Is the two-witness rule really unreasonable?
by stillin ini'm picturing a situation in which a savvy 12 year old doesn't like the house rules that mom's new husband has put into place.
or something along that line.
i can certainly agree that protection of children is paramount, but who protects the real victim in those cases?

Another important thing to remember is that this two witness rule comes from the same book that says the rapist's punishment is supposed to be to marry the girl he raped. Why aren't the Borg elders enforcing that part? -

Dissent on JW-Archive
by bemused inin the posts about the australian royal commission there have been several references to discussions on jw-archive.
i'd not heard of that site, so checked it out.
it seems to be used by many active jws - its tumblr style archive is full of pictures of jws doing their thing.

They can't delete comments fast enough, lol, because there are more exJWs than active JWs on the Internet. We're winning at life. -

The ENTIRE point is that the authorities are trained and qualified to determine whether witnesses are credible, and to also gather other evidence. For them sometimes one witness is sufficient and sometimes not. The police and child protection services are not culty enough to have a blanket rule like the Borg has. They have actual thinking ability where it is clear from the testimony so far that your typical Borg elder does not. The elders are not equipped to do such things. They shouldn't even be addressing the issue in-house until guilt is determined by professionals. THEN if the person is guilty, they can DF or determine repentance or whatever they want to do on a religious level.
